Introduction

At Impulse we are committed to safeguarding vulnerable adults and children. As specialists in safeguarding, our mission is to respond to neurodivergence and improve lives. We believe that safeguarding is critical to protecting the welfare of neurodivergent individuals and preventing adverse life events. Our organisation’s values and principles revolve around safeguarding, and we are dedicated to creating a safe and secure environment for all.

Definition of Safeguarding

At Impulse, safeguarding means creating a safe environment for vulnerable adults and children by protecting them from abuse, harm, and neglect. We take safeguarding seriously and have strict measures in place to ensure the safety and well-being of our stakeholders. All of our staff must hold a valid enhanced DBS, and we have an appointed Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and Lead Trustee for Safeguarding. We use a secure Case Management System to manage, record and disseminate concerns, and all of our staff, trustees, and volunteers are trained to a high standard in safeguarding. We believe that safeguarding is not just a legal requirement, but a moral obligation, and we are committed to upholding this responsibility.

Policies and Procedures

At Impulse, we have a range of policies and procedures in place to safeguard our stakeholders, including employees, volunteers, customers, and service users. These policies include, but are not limited too, our:-

  • Acceptable Use of Technology Policy
  • Code of Conduct
  • Data Protection Policy
  • Diversity and Equality Policy
  • Equality and Diversity Policy
  • Health and Safety Policy
  • Recruitment of Ex-Offenders Policy
  • Safeguarding Policy

All of these policies are designed to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone, and we take them very seriously. If you would like to learn more about our safeguarding policies and procedures, please feel free to contact us.

Training and Awareness

At Impulse, we take safeguarding seriously and strive to provide engaging training to our team and external organisations. Our team undergoes internal safeguarding training, PREVENT, suicide prevention, and first aid training. We also engage in additional internal and external training and continuous professional development in specialist safeguarding subjects. Our goal is to raise awareness among our stakeholders and provide the best possible support to our clients.

Reporting and Response

At Impulse, we take safeguarding seriously and have robust reporting and response mechanisms in place. Volunteers, employees, or trustees must inform their supervisor and/or the duty Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) if they suspect a child or adult is at risk of harm or abuse. Concerned volunteers, employees, or trustees should assess the risk levels and record all concerns appropriately. Any allegation against a volunteer, staff member or trustee will be addressed to a supervisor, Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or Lead Trustee for Safeguarding.

If you have a safeguarding concern, please contact us immediately via safeguarding@impulse.org.uk. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, please contact the emergency services via 999 now.

Partnerships and Collaboration

At Impulse, we believe that partnerships and collaborations are key to promoting safeguarding and protecting vulnerable individuals. We are proud to have strong working relationships with law enforcement, healthcare, and local authorities. We value the trust and confidence that these organisations have in us and we work tirelessly to maintain those relationships. We believe that sharing information is crucial in safeguarding and protecting vulnerable individuals and we do so where proportionate, lawful, appropriate, and necessary. We are committed to working together with other agencies to ensure that vulnerable individuals receive the best possible care and support.

Conclusion

At Impulse, we are committed to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of all individuals. We take a proactive approach to safeguarding and have robust reporting and response mechanisms in place. Our partnerships and collaborations with other organisations help us promote safeguarding and protect vulnerable individuals. Together, we can all work towards a safer future for everyone.
